MAPENZI simply means ¨ I Love You ¨ in the African Language Swahili.
The track title for every song in this collection is also ¨ I Love You ¨ in different ancient African languages.
Here is a seven track electronic music album inspired by a trip to Madagascar in 2017. A mix of organic and electronic resonances, somewhere between House, Techno and Ambient music.
Each track tells its own story, showered by natural sounds taken from field recordings and a whole array of different African instruments like the Zeze, a string instrument most commonly played in sub-Saharan Africa, or the Adungu, a stringed musical instrument of the Alur people of northwestern Uganda, an arched harp of varying dimensions, ranging from seven to ten strings or more.
Full length is 40 min.
This project was initially produced throughout the virus lockdown in 2020.
